our Services

our work

The Outdoor Surface Company provides professional installation of epoxy, urethane, multi-glaze, and polyaspartic surface coatings. Despite our name, we work both outdoors and indoors! Wherever you require the highest degree of protection against water penetration, temperature fluctuations, and physical damage; we’ve got you covered.

your reward

In the 1990s, contractors and property owners noticed that the seams in vinyl decking allowed for gradual water intrusion, causing leaks and decay. To fix this, urethane and epoxy coatings were developed to be completely seamless and waterproof. As an additional perk, their multi-layer application includes a flexible base that can accommodate ground movement. These coatings effectively protect both wood and concrete surfaces from any work or weather.

How it’s Done

Discover how we expertly prepare your surface and apply the high-quality coating and finish. Our dedicated team can start and finish most projects within just 2-3 days, ensuring minimal disruption to your routine.

SURFACE REPAIR

The first step is to restore any compromised integrity of the application surface. This involves patching any holes, dents, cracks, and gaps. On wood surfaces, we use seam filler to address any knot or screw holes. Addressing these issues not only enhances the appearance of the final product, but also provides a solid foundation for the subsequent layers of product.

If you’re not quite ready for any specialty coatings yet, don’t worry; we also offer standalone repair services for your damaged concrete surfaces.

Grinding & Sanding

After repairs are completed or deemed unnecessary, we proceed to smooth down the entire application surface. For concrete surfaces, this involves grinding to eliminate any inconsistencies. For wood surfaces, sanding is performed to ensure a smooth finish. This process removes any imperfections and ensures that the base is completely level.

Priming

In this stage, we roll on a thin coat of clear primer. This creates a sticky surface that promotes adhesion with both the concrete and the layer on top.

For surfaces or spaces that aren’t protected from elements and temperature fluctuations, an extra membrane is installed on top of the primer. This membrane is made of a flexible material that accommodates the expansion and contraction of the surface below.

Painting

Next, we apply a coat of specialized aromatic paint. This colour-coat is thicker than typical paint, but it’s also fast-drying, so it’s essential to work quickly. We start by cutting the edges of the surface, and follow by rolling out the rest of the space in sections. The thickness of the paint has to be just-right to adequately grip the flake finish.

flaking

Finally, we apply the flake finish. The flake is a loose product that ranges in size from 1/4” to 1/8” per piece. When the paint is properly applied, the flake will adhere well without sinking or creating any patchy appearance. When it comes to applying the flake, we say the more the merrier! Any material that doesn’t adhere is swept up and reclaimed when the surface is dry.

finishing

Once the excess flake is swept away, we apply the final touches. Sharp edges and corners are grinded for both safety and aesthetics. Depending on the required level of slip resistance, we also offer the option to sand the entire surface for a smooth finish. The last step involves applying a protective clear coat, specifically formulated and chosen based the expected use of the surface.
